My key fell out when I parked. The engine stayed on. Turns out I can easily remove the key without shutting the car off, presumably thanks to my multi-tool key chain weighing it down and letting it wiggle itself free. Needless to say, I took the key chain off now... But it will be fun to mess with my passengers by handing them the keys while going down the freeway and whatnot.

My dad had a rental Sebring that did the same trick, except this one also did a vanishing act. He found the key under the driver’s seat after it fell out.

My Ranger does that. So much fun to mess with people

My ‘71 Chevelle does this - you can start and run the car without the keys in it (need them to get the ignition cylinder out of “lock”, that’s it). I would sometimes start it, take the keys out, and then get stuff from the trunk. Often time nobody noticed, but on occasion whoever I was with would do a couple double-takes as they realized the keyring I was using to get in the back also has the ignition key on it.

It’s probably the same part between them.

My Bronco and my dad’s old Thunderbird did that.

And people give GM shit......

Actually, no. It doesn’t have the little edge thingies.

My buddy’s Nissan Hardbody can do the same thing.

He sometimes starts his truck with a screwdriver because he can.

Is it the same type of key though?

My spare keys look exactly like that, yeah. The main one has a bigger triangle plastic bit.

So its likely we have the same ignition cylinder then.

It would be neat if we even have the same key. I mean, there are only so many different ones they make, and the rest are duplicates.

This is the model key I have: Access+ 20R

My key will also fit any 1993-1997 Ford Ranger. Ford wasnt big on security back then. Id laugh if my Ranger key started your Escort, but wouldnt be surprised

I have an Axxess+ 20r, too. Of course, who knows if they’re cut the same.

Not sure.... I’m going to try to open some other Escorts, Tauruses, Rangers, Aerostars, etc. with my key next time I go to Pull-A-Part.

If it works, I’ll take their keys home as spares. :D
